Small-Business AI Brief
Week of Oct 5–Oct 11, 2026 · News cutoff Oct 11, 2026, 11:59 pm Pacific
The week in one sentence
ChatGPT’s new interactive answers offer a different way to explore information; a small retailer can test whether a clickable product comparison is clearer than a plain table.
What changed
OpenAI’s October 7 announcement introduced Intelligent UI in ChatGPT: answers that combine text with visual and interactive elements, such as buttons, charts, and side-by-side comparisons. OpenAI says ChatGPT can choose a format for the question and still give a simple text answer when appropriate.
The rollout began October 7 for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise in the Chat tab, with Free and Go expansion starting October 8. The October 7 release notes say Enterprise access depends on workspace settings. They also distinguish the Pro subscription from the Pro reasoning option: the latter uses Astra and does not support Intelligent UI. This release does not change the models powering Work or Codex.
These are launch and availability claims from OpenAI. They do not establish that a generated comparison preserves every source fact or is easier for your readers to use.
Why it matters to a small business
Our interpretation: a shop with several similar products has a useful format question to test. A table exposes every specification at once. An interactive view might let a reader focus on one material or color, but it can also hide details or make a simple comparison take more clicks.
The decision is whether the extra interaction helps someone answer a concrete question. A polished control is not proof that it filters correctly. Checking the first screen alone is insufficient: changed selections can display a different, incorrect answer.
What we predicted / What happened
Our September 28–October 4 brief, published October 6, predicted an official announcement of Pages creation and editing on iOS or Android by November 2. Intelligent UI in Chat is a different capability. This week’s launch does not establish that Pages-specific proof signal. Status: Not yet; the deadline has not arrived.
Our take on what comes next
Editorial opinion: ask an interactive answer to earn its extra complexity. Start with a comparison small enough to inspect completely, and keep the plain table as your reference. We have not run this product trial or measured an improvement in understanding, accuracy, or sales.
Your move this week
Verdict: TEST. Set a 25-minute limit, including preparation and checking. Use an existing account where Intelligent UI is available and permitted. If it is absent, keep the table; this exercise does not require an upgrade, app connection, or administrator change.
- Make a nine-cell reference. Choose three ordinary products from public pages you own. Copy three stated attributes for each, such as width, material, and color, with the source URLs. Use the same units. Leave missing details blank rather than guessing.
- Choose two questions. For example: which product is widest, and which products use cotton? Answer them from the table first. Record the answers and the time required.
- Request a small interactive comparison. Supply only those public facts and the prompt below. Limit the result to one material filter plus an All option, with the plain table still visible. Do not add customer records, prices, recommendations, or checkout actions.
- Check every state. Try All and every filter option. Compare every displayed value and included product against the reference. Check that an empty result is clear, that missing data stays missing, and that a keyboard can reach and operate the control. Count errors and corrections.
- Keep or drop the format. Answer the same two questions using the interactive view. Note setup and review time separately from question-answering time. Stop at 25 minutes; retain it only if every fact and filter checks out and the interaction has a clear purpose. This trial ends with a prototype, not a published product guide.
Evergreen cheat sheet
Prompt to adapt: Using only these three products and supplied attributes, create a compact interactive comparison with one material filter and an All option. Keep the full reference table visible. Preserve exact values and source URLs, show missing values as not stated, and make controls usable by keyboard. Do not add products, recommendations, prices, or external actions.
Log the result in the First Workflow Scorecard: facts checked, filter states checked, corrections, time, and your keep-or-drop decision. The requested behavior still needs human verification.
Prediction Tracker
Prediction — editorial opinion: by November 9, 2026, OpenAI will publish a dated example of Intelligent UI comparing retail products that shows both the supplied product facts and the interactive result. Proof signal: an official example lets a reader match those inputs to the displayed comparison. Status: Not yet. The launch material checked for this issue does not establish that specific signal. A vendor demonstration would illustrate a workflow, not prove a business benefit.
